My Dear Readers,

This week, we are going to answer this fabulous question, "What is the pH of Whole Naturals Castile Soap?" But before I answer the question, we're going to travel backward in time, back to high school, for a refresher on pH.
The number on the pH (Power of Hydrogen) scale is a measure that lets us know if a liquid, cream, ointment etc. is basic or acidic. It's important to know this answer because this determines its use - what we eat, what we put on our skin, or what we use as cleaning products. Seven is neutral (think water). Lower numbers are acidic (think of battery acid, and vinegar). Higher numbers are basic (think of bleach and ammonia).
Numbers that are on the extreme ends will not be safe for use on the skin, which is why you may want to protect your skin when handling bleach or batteries.
To get the best lather and cleaning power, most soaps fall within the higher numbers. Anything below an 8 will not be effective as a cleanser.
Whole Naturals Castile Soap falls between 9-10. Which means that it's totally safe for the skin and (I wouldn't use anything on my skin that is higher than 11.)
For more information about the pH of soap...here's a quick reference guide:
What's the Best pH for Soap?
In a nutshell:
If the pH is 7 or below → it won't be effective as a cleaner, and you will not get lather
If the pH is about 8-9 → then it's a will work as a great cleanser, safe on the skin, with with lots of bubbles
Anything above 10→ although you'll get great lather, and great cleaning power, it should not be used as a skin cleanser as it can be harsh and drying
Why is this Important for Whole Naturals Castile Soap?
